In our last House Of Lights blog, we began talking about the size of your ceiling fan related to how large your room is. Sometimes people think they need the largest ceiling fan to get the most power and comfort, but that simply isn’t true. Now that we’ve covered size, we’re going to talk about the placement of your Merritt Island, FL ceiling fans today and give you some tips on where to place them properly.

Obviously your first choice is to put your ceiling fan in the exact middle of the room, right? Let’s take a look at some things you should consider first.

  • Look out for vents and registers: Make sure that your ceiling fan is not any closer than 4 feet away from any air vents or heating registers in the room.
  • Fireplaces: If you’ve got a fireplace in one of the rooms in your house, avoid placing a ceiling fan near it. Why? It can affect the draw through the chimney flue, especially if there’s a light on your ceiling fan!
  • Sloped Ceilings: When considering placement, always make sure that the blades on your ceiling fan are at least 2 feet away from any sloped ceilings or walls.
  • Multiple Fans: If you’ve got a very large space, you should consider installing ceiling fans in each zone of the room. You’ll find that several smaller fans will provide much better air circulation and comfort, as well as lower energy costs, compared to running one large fan on high at all times.
